West High Student Charged for Possessing a Firearm on School Property

A West High School student was arrested and charged for having a gun on school property on Tuesday morning.

On the morning of Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a Knoxville Police Department School Resource Officer was notified that a West High School student, a 15-year-old male, had potentially brought a gun to school. Another student notified school administration that the student was showing off the gun in a school bathroom.

The student was immediately located, searched and found in possession of a loaded handgun in his backpack. The student was subsequently charged for carrying a weapon on school property.

The student did not make any threats of violence, and it is not believed that any students, staff or faculty were in any danger.
